Fertogard is an oral medication that contains 25 mg of Clomiphene Citrate. It is used to address infertility issues in women.
Fertogard aids in restoring normal ovarian function by stimulating the maturation and proper release of eggs, a process known as ovulation. Following this, the egg must be fertilized to create a new zygote.
In addition, this medication is effective in regulating the menstrual cycle in women experiencing irregular ovulation due to the use of oral contraceptives or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
It is also utilized to enhance sperm production in men with a low sperm count at a lower dosage of 25 mg, thus assisting in resolving male infertility issues.
Fertogard functions as a selective estrogen receptor modulator, binding to estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, which serves as the brain's control center. It inhibits the negative feedback effect of estrogen.
When estrogen levels drop, the hypothalamus produces gonadotropins, which then triggers the pituitary gland to release FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone), both essential for ovulation as they promote the growth and maturation of ovarian egg follicles. Upon full maturation, the follicle ruptures and releases the egg, marking the ovulation process.
Generally, the most favorable outcomes are observed in women with polycystic ovary syndrome, a condition that hinders regular ovulation, as well as other disorders affecting ovulation. Once a regular ovulation pattern is established, treatment involves the proper timing of sexual intercourse and starting each new Fertogard course on the fifth day of the menstrual cycle.
